Training for the Stars – Lessons from NASA & Space Nation

Some opportunities feel larger than life. This past month, Fulvia and I had the privilege of being selected for and successfully completing a space training mission through Space Nation / NASA, under the guidance of one of the world’s most accomplished astronauts, Terry Virts.

For those who don’t know Terry’s story, he’s nothing short of remarkable. A decorated U.S. Air Force F-16 pilot, Space Shuttle Endeavour astronaut, International Space Station commander, and a man who spent over 200 days in space, Terry’s life has inspired books, films, and documentaries. To stand beside him as an instructor and mentor was both humbling and unforgettable.

Alongside Space Nation’s CEO and former Special Forces operator Kalle Vaha-Jaakola, we engaged in a training experience that was equal parts physical, mental, and spiritual. It wasn’t just about space—it was about resilience, teamwork, and pushing human limits with faith and purpose at the center.

Fulvia and I were honored to not only complete the mission but to walk away with a deeper conviction: that when God opens doors, no matter how vast or intimidating, He equips us to walk through them. Standing with leaders like Kalle and Terry reminded me of the power of preparation and obedience—the same principles I bring into my work at SAFE.

This training wasn’t just about the thrill of spaceflight—it was about perspective. Looking up at the heavens reminds me of Psalm 19:1: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Space is vast, but God’s purposes for us are greater still.

I’m grateful for the opportunity, humbled by the company I stood with, and energized for the mission ahead—whether building platforms for the U.S. military or training for missions that reach beyond our planet. At every level, my calling remains the same: to serve with faith, courage, and integrity.
